Gillespie Field

Opened in 1942 to train World War II Marine Corps paratroopers, the airfield today serves as a general aviation facility. Each summer, an on-site museum hosts the popular “Wings Over Gillespie” festival. In 1946 the County of San Diego leased Gillespie Field and converted it to a public airport. It’s the oldest and largest of the County’s eight airports.
